Who is Carolyn Shivers?
Carolyn Shivers, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Science and Director of the Pathways Minor in Disabilities Studies at Virginia Tech. After earning her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Vanderbilt University, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship co-located at Michigan State University and Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland studying lifespan development and family processes among individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Shivers’s research focuses on the experiences of typically-developing siblings of individuals who have autism spectrum disorder. She focuses on individual differences to better understand the factors that promote or inhibit healthy development, both individually and within the family.
